After 15
years of managing the agency, both when working alone and employing
staff, we have tried varied hours of work, but as a rule, we generally
work normal office hours. We now work 9-5 Monday to Thursday as a rule. I
occasionally work outside these hours when necessary. If for any reason,
we are not open during office hours on any normal weekday, we will always
note this information as an automatic vacation reply on our email system
and also on the answer phone. Hours and upcoming holiday closures will
always be noted at the bottom of all our emails along with all our
contact details
We may work
short hours during any school holidays .
We will
close for all bank holidays – every year.

From now
onward, we are closing our localised landline numbers, and will
maintain only our free phone landline number.
I believe
this is even free for mobiles to call us on. The purpose is to reduce our
costs, and at the same time reduce yours! You can call us anytime of day
or evening and the call will be free. We are only based in the office
between 9 and 4 on weekdays though, so outside those hours, you will
reach the answer phone only. If you do get the answer phone, whether it
is during office hours, or in the evenings or at weekends, then please
don’t waste your call. Instead, leave us a message, stating your name,
a landline number and a time we can call you back on it, and we will call
you right back on the landline as soon as we can.

If you
haven’t heard of this or are afraid of using it, then just take a
few moments to look up the benefits on the internet. My sister suggested
I start to use Skype to make calls to her, about seven years ago, when
she moved abroad. I was wary of it, and didn’t even take the time
to look at its benefits. If I had done so, I would now be a serious
amount of money richer! This year, I have taken the bull by the horns and
researched it. This is what I found; I needed to buy a headset to plug
into the computer, which cost us about £4, I needed to register with
Skype which was free of charge, and took less than 5 minutes. After doing
just those two simple things, I was already able to call other Skype
users FREE, through my computer, via the internet. I can add credit to
the Skype account in increments of about £10 a time, and call any normal
landline or mobile phone around the world, and the cost of the call is
taken from my credit. The call tariffs are very cheap and definitely
comparable to BT. For inland UK use, this is not really much cheaper than
using BT, but for overseas and mobile calls, it is significantly cheaper.
We have paid a fee to be able to make unlimited calls to landlines in 22
European countries FREE. This cost £8.99 for a 12 month period. All of
our calls to landlines in any European country are now FREE. This change
saves our business on average about £600 a month. We pay for mobile calls
individually, and that is why it is policy only to call in emergencies.
If you are a Skype user, you can contact us via Skype using the above
Skype contact info – antoinettesouthern, and any calls you make
will be completely free. We can also text you form our Skype account. But
please note that, you cannot reply direct to texts sent by Skype.

You can
email any query or message to these two addresses, and you will receive a
direct reply within 24 hours during working days. These accounts are open
and checked all day. Email really is one of our main forms of
communication. We are very happy to phone you with a reply to your email
if you can give us a landline number and state the times we can call you
on it.

We have now
officially closed our high street office. Any post is being redirected
for the moment, but we prefer to operate a paper free office where
possible. This saves both you and the office time and money, and the
environment an awful lot of Carbon Dioxide emissions! No paper, no ink,
no envelopes and stamps, no fuel for delivery, no storage to handle the
paper itself! Any document can be scanned and emailed to us in real time,
and there is then no margin for loss or delay in the post. Ultimately the
best solution all round. On the rare occasion that it is essential to
post something via normal postal services, you should contact us to check
on the address to use, as I usually work from home and so don’t
advertise our address.

We have
owned this website for about 8 years now. The site operates mainly as an
information site as we do not have an interactive database facility with
it. I believe this will always be the case, as our service is personal
and professional and while we benefit from the use of database facilities
within the office, I prefer to control the website content and interact
with our clients and carers directly as opposed to allowing the site to
do this for us We are working to improve our updating of the
site on a more regular basis, and as such commit to updating this site,
at least once a week on a Friday, to show which jobs are available for
nannies and aupairs, and also which aupairs and nannies are available for
families to be able to review their profiles. The site is small, so
although we can show all our available jobs, we can only highlight a
selection of the nannies and aupairs available each week. We are working
on a system to make this as fair as possible to those looking for work.
We do need your help with that though – so nannies - please do keep
in touch with us and let us know when you become unavailable, so that we
can highlight other files. We do try to email out the job list to the
nannies in the correct area when we can.
We will also
be uploading a newsletter at least once a fortnight and as such, we
welcome your comments and emails, to tell us about any topics which you
think are important to address at the moment.
